The Accelerate Project

  • What is it?

We believe God has called us to use New River Community Church to build up Lake Wylie into a great city for Him.  Prepare yourself for the most counter-cultural experience of your life.  It’s not about how much we can get.  It’s about giving back to our God who gave His only Son for us.  It’s all about Jesus—and His kingdom has come.

  • We’re expanding

We’re expanding the influence of Jesus in individual lives, in New River, in Lake Wylie, and in the world.

•We’re expanding our campus.  Thousands of people will come to faith in Christ through this new strategic expansion.
•We’re going to stomp out hunger in Lake Wylie by making sure Nobody Goes Hungry Here.
•We’re strategically stepping up our efforts in Western Kenya to preach the gospel, care for children, and relieve suffering there.

  • This spring

This Spring, it’s not about what you get. It’s about what you will give back.

Since the beginning, we have never strayed from the vision God has given us – New River Community Church exists to lead people into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ.
And this vision will not change. But our strategy will change as needed.
We are all about changed lives, and ultimately we are all about the people of Lake Wylie meeting Jesus.  The people that make up the body of Christ are the Church.  Buildings are just tools.  At New River, we will always be about lifting the name of Jesus and building a movement of God, not building monuments to ourselves.

  • To accomplish the vision

In order to accomplish the vision God has for New River Community Church, we believe that capacity is a key component. God can only pour into what is available. As long as we can
add seats, as well as strategic ministry space for children and youth, we believe we will continue to see God do amazing things through New River to build up a great city in Lake Wylie.

    What Are My Next Steps?
  • Step 1: Pray

This is the most important step in preparing your heart to respond to God's call to action.  Ask Him what He would have you to give financially to help make this initial $1,500,000 goal a reality for New River.  Remember, these gifts are over and above your regular tithe.

  • Step 2: Leave Room For Faith

Trust God to provide what He leads you to give, even if the amount is greater than the resources you can readily identify.  This is a faith journey for all of us.  As our faith is stretched with our giving we get to see God do more in our lives than we ever imagined before.  Our greatest hopes and dreams are just the beginning for God.

  • Step 3: Give Generously

Not everyone will be able to give the same amount.  But we all can give generously as God leads.  There is no limit to what God will do in and through us if we commit ourselves to generous giving through The Accelerate Project.

  • Over and above

Giving to The Accelerate Project should be "over and above" your regular tithe to the ministries of New River.  We cannot rob God of our tithe (Malachi 3:10) to give to The Accelerate Project.  If we stop giving our regular minis-tries tithe, our ministry will suffer.  "Robbing Peter to pay Paul" will lead to ineffective ministry and hinder what God is asking of us as a church.

    An Interview With Arthur

  • Arthur, what are the plans for the initial $1,500,000, what will it be used for?

Arthur:  Every penny will be designated for campus expansion so that we can lead people into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ.  We’ll have regular updates on plans and giving as well as quarterly gatherings about The Accelerate Project.  We’re doing The Accelerate Project now so that we will have funds to expand as quickly as possible once all plans, permits, and certificates have been completed.

  • Why do we need to expand?

Arthur:  I look at it from a different perspective.  It’s not that we have to expand.  We get to expand.  God is strongly resting His hand on us at New River and has called us to an extraordinary work in Lake Wylie.  We have moved from a beginning group of 5 people to an average weekend attendance of 1200 people.  God is allowing us to see people make decisions for Christ every single week at every single worship service.  Our preschool children and elementary children spaces are filled to capacity.  Exiting our parking lot can take over 25 minutes.  When people hear that we’re full, they assume there’s no room for them.  For us to continue with our mission of leading people into a growing relationship with Christ, we need space for people to come to New River.

  • Why is it important to give "over and above" what people typically give?

Arthur:  If we stop giving to our ministries budget in order to give to The Accelerate Project, our ministries will suffer.  The Accelerate Project is an offering over and above our regular giving.  If a carpenter spends too much time and money on buying new tools, he can become too attached to the tools and not to what the tools are for.  If we focus too much on a building, we forget that it is a tool to be used for reaching people.  So funding the ministry has to happen simultaneously with funding for expanding the campus.

  • How do I get on board with The Accelerate Project?

Arthur:  Pray.  Listen carefully to what God tells you and look at what He shows you.  Then bring your very best offering, and an Accelerate Project Commitment Card to one of our 4 worship services during the weekend of May 1-2, 2010.  The special offering on May 1-2, will get everything started.  We’re also asking everyone to make a 24 month commitment, from June 2010 until June 2012 of the amount that you believe God has called you to give toward His work through The Accelerate Project.

  • Where can I get A Commitment Card for The Accelerate Project

Arthur:  You can get one at any of our weekend worship services, at the church office, or you can download one HERE.

  • How can I give to The Accelerate Project?

Arthur:  Give during the weekend worship services at New River.  If you use a New River Offering Envelope, simply designate how much you are giving to The Accelerate Project and how much you are giving as your regular tithes or offering.  If you would like to simplify your own accounting and write separate checks for your regular tithes and offering and a separate check for The Accelerate Project, that’s great.  Give online by clicking HEREIf you give online, you can access your giving records at any time, and you can give directly from your bank account, or with a debit or credit card.

  • Is there a way I can see my contribution records?

Arthur:  Sure, New River mails contribution records each quarter, and contribution records can viewed at anytime if you have registered at our website.  To set up a registration account at
    www.nrcc.net begin by clicking HERE.

  • Can I give something instead of cash?

Arthur:  Yes.  Some people choose to donate stocks, land, or through estate planning.  If you would like to donate to The Accelerate Project using one of these methods, please contact our Financial Adminstrator, Alisa Frye at alisa@nrcc.net

  • Arthur, one last question, is it worth it?

Arthur:  It all depends.  If our mission is to be a church that's perfectly designed for the people who already attend, then we don't need to expand.  But if we want to continue to be a church unchurched people love to attend, then yes, it's worth it.  From my perspective, this is not a "nice to have" option.  Honestly, I don’t want to raise money for, or give money to, some-thing that’s not mission critical.  I believe expanding our campus allows us to stay on mission.  We have always been a church that does "whatever it takes, because of what’s at stake".  Expanding our campus so we can stay on mission and keep reaching people for Jesus is absolutely worth it.
